How would you, as a teacher, assess journal writing? Describe how journals are used as part of the learning process

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: The important thing to remember about assessing journal writing is to remember the purpose of journal writing. Writers use journals to jot down observations, impressions, and concerns about their daily lives and what they are learning. They should not be assessed for complete accuracy or grammatical correctness. Credit should be given for honest effort and sincerity replicated in the entries as well as the regular appearance of entries. In using journals, students discover more about themselves while teachers discover more about students. Journal writings should not be writing assignments or final products. They should not face the same assessment rigor as finished writing. Types of journals that can be used in the classroom are personal journals, double-entry journals, dialogue journals, and learning logs.
