Describe the Human Genome Project.

What will be an ideal response?

In 2001, scientists were able to map the specific location and sequence of every human gene as part of the massive Human Genome Project. The accomplishment was one of the most important in the history of biology. The success of the Human Genome Project started a revolution in health care because scientists can identify the particular genes responsible for genetically caused disorders. It is already leading not only to the identification of risk factors in children but also to the development of new treatments for physical and psychological disorders.
