How should classroom rules be developed and implemented?

What will be an ideal response?

Correct Answer:
The number of rules should be kept to a minimum; a maximum of five rules is recommended. Rules should be stated simply and positively; that is, they should tell students what to do rather than what not to do. They should be very specific and should describe behavior that is observable and measurable. The teacher should introduce the rules to students and explain what behaviors each rules encompasses. Next, the teacher should post the rules (along with the lists of rewards and consequences for compliance and noncompliance) in a visible place in the classroom. Students should be given many opportunities to practice following the rules, especially during the first weeks of the school year, and should be rewarded for doing so.
