What influences fear of crime?
What will be an ideal response?
There are several things that influence the fear of crime. One is that people think that they will be a victim. That we are currently living in a time where crime is rampant and at any moment they will become a victim of crime. The media helps instill fear into the masses. During their reports, the media tends to be over dramatic on the state of crime in an area. This leads people to believe that they live in a high-crime area. Lastly is people are nostalgic for a “good old day” where people did not have to lock their doors or cars and nothing would be stolen. All of these factors contribute to the idea that we currently live in high-crime times, even though 2016 is one of the lowest crime years in the past 20 years.
