Kimberley and José are going to be new parents. What role will their parenting likely play in their child developing a personality disorder?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: More people with personality disorders had parents who were emotionally cold and distant. Their parents were more likely to have extreme parenting styles (either too harsh or too inconsistent), use guilt or shame to control children, and/or not express affection. The more negative experiences children have, the more likely they are to develop a personality disorder as an adult.
