How do 3D printers work? What sort of applications do these printers have?

What will be an ideal response?

Initially, a 3D model is created on a computer using special software. When it is transferred to the printer, a nozzle will heat special plastic material until it melts. This nozzle will expel the liquid in a series of layers, which quickly hardens into solid form. There are countless applications for 3D printing that range from the creation of plastic toys at home to producing equipment and parts for astronauts that are stationed on another planet.
