What is whistleblowing? What are some of the risks involved in it? Explain whether it is a betrayal of a follower’s loyalty.

What will be an ideal response?

Whistleblowing is the disclosure by a person, usually an employee, to the public or those in authority, of mismanagement, corruption, illegality, or some wrongdoing in the organization. It is an important mechanism in organizations and societies to reduce the possibility of the over-exertion of power. It is risky because it is often exposing, and in some respects going against, those who have power and the ability to inflict consequences on the whistleblower. Further, some might perceive the action as disloyal. It is not interpreted as a betrayal of loyalty when one blows the whistle because he or she believes that moral values or laws have been compromised and that this is the only recourse.
