Give your own assessment of America's participation in the Vietnam War. Do you agree or disagree with the rationale for our intervention? Why? With the way the United States fought the war? Why? With the way we ended our involvement? Why?

What will be an ideal response?

The rationale for commitment included concerns about falling dominoes, Chinese expansion, U.S. credibility, and honoring commitments. The U.S. strategy for winning the war involved bombing North Vietnam into submission and conducting a war of attrition against the Vietcong in South Vietnam. American involvement ended with the gradual withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from South Vietnam between 1968 and 1973.
