Why must a ridge at the top of the cylinders be removed for proper disassembly and reassembly?
What will be an ideal response?
The ridge at the top of the cylinders must be removed to prevent damage to the pistons and rings while they are knocked out. If the engine is reassembled with the ridge left in place, it can cause the same type of damage to the parts which would ruin an overhaul.
