The number of judges on each of the various circuits of U.S. courts of appeals range from approximately 6 to 30. Typically, appeals before a U.S. court of appeals are heard by a panel of three judges. However, after a decision is rendered by the three-judge panel, a petitioner can request an en banc review, in which case the matter is reheard by the full appeals court.
