Discuss the "proxy wars" that were fought between the west and Communist nations like the USSR and China?

What will be an ideal response?

As an extension of the Truman Doctrine, the "Domino Theory" arose arguing that if one country fell to Communism, the others nearby were also in danger, and therefore the Truman Doctrine could be applied to justify intervention to prevent the spread of Communism. As a result, several countries were "staged" for what were termed "proxy wars," in which the western states would prop up a government and provide military, financial, and consulting assistance to the affected country. Communist advocates would employ the same method on the other side. The Korean and Vietnamese wars can be studied as examples. For example, when the United States lobbied for intervention in South Korea, China moved into North Korea to support pro-Communist forces. A three year war ensued that was staged by western and communist forces for the goal of preventing the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia. In the end, it resulted in the partitioning of the Korean territory that remains to this day as North and South Korea. The same instance occurred in Vietnam, as France ended its war in Indochina, and within Vietnam, a civil war broke out over the implementation of a new form of government, including the possibility of Communism. Western forces established a pro-west government, but Chinese and pro-Communist forces established their own government in North Vietnam, with each side fighting "on behalf" of the Vietnamese sides, ostensibly to prevent the spread of Communism to Cambodia and Laos.
