How is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) used?

What will be an ideal response?

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is used to enable IP addresses to be assigned automatically by a DHCP server on a network. When a new computer is configured to use DHCP and then attached to the network, it contacts the DHCP server. The DHCP server leases an IP address to that new computer via DHCP. The length of a lease is set on the DHCP server by a network administrator.
