Discuss the different perspectives and recommendations on whether or not a woman should leave an IPV situation. What is your opinion on this issue?
What will be an ideal response?
Examples should include that some researchers report that it is not always best for a victim to leave a domestic violence situation. There is evidence that victims who attempt to leave are often stalked, harassed, and threatened on an ongoing basis. It was originally believed that if a battered woman could be persuaded to leave the abusive relationship, the violence would stop, but in many cases, most of the reported injuries from domestic violence occur after the separation of the couple. Some evidence also suggests that women who leave their batterers are at a 75% greater risk of being killed by their batterers than those who stay. IPV advocates maintain that the risk of staying is much greater than the risk of leaving. It is crucial that women who leave have necessary support when they do so.
