What is mechanical solidarity? What is organic solidarity?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary but should discuss that members of society are often held together by mechanical solidarity. This stems from the fact that employees participate in the same labor and activities. Workers may feel that they belong to a collective group, resulting in a strong sense of collective conscience. An increase in the division of labor has taken place over time. People were once held together by similarities, but now many individuals are held together by their differences. People have become more dependent on one another for individualized services and goods, rather than unity. This is referred to as organic solidarity. Organic solidarity can be quite powerful, but it is often accompanied by a decline in the power of collective consciousness.
