Explain the benefits of ePrescribing.
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary. The process of the physician calling in a prescription (or the patient dropping off a paper prescription) and the patient having to wait to pick up the prescription may be lessened because of ePrescribing. Medication errors are less likely since the pharmacist does not have to decipher a physician's handwriting. Since the demographics of the patient are also sent with the prescription, there is a decreased likelihood of filling the prescription for the wrong patient (two John Jones, for example). Food and drug interactions are flagged immediately. Wrong dosages (for instance, a physician orders 250 mg of a drug when the maximum recommended dose is 25 mg) are flagged immediately. Prescription renewal requests can be handled in a more timely manner.
