Explain the difference between a step-up transformer and a step-down transformer.

What will be an ideal response?

Transformers are used to transfer energy from one AC system to another by electromagnetic means. If the transformer increases the voltage from primary to secondary, it is called a step-up transformer. If it decreases the voltage from primary to secondary, it is called a step-down transformer.
