How did philosophy differ from the Hellenic to the Hellenistic Age?

Early Greek philosophy was concerned with causation and observation of the natural world, but later took a turn to the more internalized philosophy of ethical standing under Socrates. Socrates' questioning of what is right and true was a new phenomenon that surpassed the earlier philosophers, who were concerned with explaining the world around them. Plato's building on that idea created a metaphysical idea and blended it with the political world in the republic. Hellenistic philosophers such as Zeno and Epicurus, each a materialist, argued that individuals could achieve satisfaction through introspection and ethical behavior. This emphasis on the individual differed greatly from both the Archaic and Golden Ages.
