How can hydrogen be used as an energy source. Describe two ways it can be produced on a large scale. How should it be stored and made available for consumer use?

What will be an ideal response?

As indicated in the chapter, hydrogen can be combined with gasoline,
ethanol, methanol, and natural gas to increase performance and reduce
pollution. For use as a fuel, it could be made by electrolysis, which is the
splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen. However, this process is
expensive. Several experimental methods are photoelectrolysis, the use
of light energy to split water, or biomass gasification, where wood chips
and agricultural wastes are superheated until they turn into gasses, one of
them being hydrogen. Some algae produce hydrogen and scientists are
experimenting with these organisms to find ways to make this an
efficient process.
