How did the rise of agriculture impact civilization?

What will be an ideal response?

Students should be able to define the transition to sedentary living and domestication of resources through intensive agriculture as the transitional point between cultures as hunter-gatherers and the fixed growth of civilization. The switch to agriculture instead of pastoralism signified the beginnings of permanence in society and allowed the growth of other infrastructure elements, including metal technology, trade, and organized hierarchy of social structure, necessary to sustain and grow civilization as opposed to society. Answers will vary.
