What is a broadcast storm and why is it detrimental?
What will be an ideal response?
A broadcast storm occurs when a message sent for broadcast crosses two bridges between the same two segments of a network. The bridges will repeatedly send the message on one segment to the other segment where it will be received by the second bridge and send back to the other segment. This causes an infinite loop because Layer 2 packets do not expire. This impacts performance of the network and any attached devices becausethey will receive unlimited copies of the message.STP prevents this kind of loop from existing on the network.
