These scales can be used to represent different lengths and units of measure. For example, the 1/4 scale can be used with inches so that 1/4 in. equals 1 in., or to represent feet as in 1/4 in. equals 1 ft. It could be used with yards, meters, miles, or any other standard unit.
Engineering scales are divided into decimals of inches. Some of the common units are 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, and 60th. As with the architectural scale, these units can be used to represent any number of distances.
