How did the burst of the housing bubble affect people who did not own their homes (renters)?

What will be an ideal response?

Feedback: Renters were not immune to the nation's housing crisis. (1) When owners of apartments are foreclosed on, their renters are evicted even though they have been paying their rents. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, about 40% of families facing eviction because of foreclosure were renters, usually losing their security deposits and any prepaid rent. (2) Homeowners forced into foreclosure often became tenants, increasing the demand for rentals, which, coupled with the lack of apartment construction, drove up rents. More than half of renters are spending more than 30% of their household income for housing—the threshold set by the government to determine if housing is unaffordable.
