Explain the difference between parole and probation. What happens if one breaks the conditions of their parole or probation?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary but should include that parole is the supervised early release of a prisoner (for such efforts as good behavior while in prison). Those who are convicted of less serious crimes may be placed on probation, whereby they are released into the community with supervision. They are released under certain conditions, such as that they must be enrolled in and complete a substance abuse program. If the offender does not adhere to these conditions, is arrested, or is convicted, probation can be revoked.
