Why do you suppose the receptionist should greet the patient right away? How might the patient feel if the receptionist does not look up when the patient approaches the desk?

What will be an ideal response?

The receptionist should acknowledge the patient right away so that the patient knows the receptionist is aware of the patient's arrival. If the receptionist does not look up right away, the patient may feel ignored, or may feel that she is not important to the receptionist.
