What is an “agribusiness” and what are some of the problems associated with it?
What will be an ideal response?
While there are many small labor-intensive farms, more of the world’s food is produced by large corporate “agribusinesses.” These businesses are very profitable, but labor is very poorly paid. Large companies such as Monsanto and Kellogg are examples of agribusinesses. These businesses control the global market in grain, fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds in processing, distributing, and selling. They have undue influence over international markets and policies. Their supply chains have been known to employ child labor, pay substandard wages, and contribute directly to the environmental destruction.
