List three outcomes of the Human Genome Project and explain how one of these outcomes has revolutionized how scientists think about our genome or another animal’s genome.
What will be an ideal response?
Three outcomes are the following: (1) About 30,000 genes are in the
human genome (fewer than originally thought); (2) besides a blueprint
for what proteins you make, your DNA stores your DNA history and
from that scientists can determine your DNA past; and (3) to determine
your DNA sequence accurately and quickly, several tools and laboratory
protocols had to be developed, such as automated cycle sequencing,
bioinformatic software, and the ability to store and update genetic
information rapidly. Because so few genes exist means that expression
that leads to all of the possible phenotypes that human’s exhibit.
