Compare and contrast nicotine with amphetamines
What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER:
?Sample Answer - Both nicotine and amphetamines are stimulants. Both increase the alertness in people, giving a sense of more energy, honing concentration, and elevating heart rate and blood pressure. Both substances can develop dependency and withdrawal symptoms. Amphetamines and nicotine both exert their effects through the dopamine system. Amphetamines both block reuptake and increase release of dopamine, while nicotine does not provide this “dual action.” Because of this, the use of amphetamines can be more damaging to the central nervous system than the use of nicotine. Amphetamines are available only with a physician’s prescription, while nicotine is a legal substance. Both substances can cause health difficulties: for nicotine, in larger doses it can cause vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, and dizziness; amphetamine abuse can lead to psychosis, strokes, and cardiovascular problems.
