What are rapid manufacturing and prototyping and what are some applications?

What will be an ideal response? What will be an ideal response?

Rapid manufacturing and prototyping are becoming increasingly
cheaper and more accessible, allowing us to create a physical model or
representation of our product quickly. Using these techniques, we can take
a design from conception to physical prototype quickly. This allows us to test
and evaluate many design alternatives without the cost or time associated
with full-scale production. As these techniques have improved, the quality of
the product manufactured through rapid prototyping has greatly increased.
In some cases we are able to use these methods for rapid manufacture. Any
product where cost, quality, and performance are important will benefi t
from iteration through rapid prototyping.
