What are the major components/elements of a preliminary homicide investigation?
What will be an ideal response?
Homicide investigations are usually reactive in nature and aretypically initiated by a telephone call to a local law enforcement agency notifying them of some aspect of the offense. The first officer to respond to a suspected homicide call is generally a patrol officer who arrives a short time after the call is received. After these fundamental steps are dealt with, the officer must become what could be termed scene-conscious. That is, he or she must become aware of the crime-scene situation and be prepared to take certain immediate actions, the focus being identifying any aspects of the scene that might be subject to chemical change, change by dissipation, or change because something was moved.
