What is the relationship between the wave crest, trough, height and wavelength?

Ocean waves have distinct parts. The wave crest is highest part of the wave above the average water level at a specific location. The wave trough is the low point in the "valley" that occurs between the crests, below the average water level. The wave height is he vertical distance between a wave crest and wave trough. The wavelength is the horizontal distance between either two successive crests or troughs. Knowing the wavelength and wave height are important for determining the celerity of a wave and when it will break.
