What is sampling error and how does it occur?

What will be an ideal response?

Differences between the sample and the population contribute to sampling error. Sampling error exists any time we collect data from a sample of the population because we will never be able to get the exact population data from just a sample of the population. Each sample is a different subset of the population and will provide different scores, resulting in different means across samples. We're trying to estimate the population mean using the sample mean so with each sample, we will be at least a little bit wrong about the population mean. This difference between the sample mean and the population mean is the sampling error.
