The main goal of historical research is to collect information and interpret/analyze the collected data to answer a research question. The goal of the research question can be one of many for historical research. Investigators can seek to uncover the unknown or answer questions. They can seek the implications of relationships or events from the past and their connection with the future. They can assess past activities and the accomplishments of specific individuals, agencies, or institutions. Then finally, they can aid generally in our understanding of human culture.
