Compare and contrast simple diffusion, osmosis, and facilitated diffusion. What will be an ideal response?
Simple diffusion, osmosis, and facilitated diffusion are all passive transport processes because they
transport is down a concentration gradient. In diffusion solutes diffuse from higher to lower
concentration through a biological membrane. In osmosis water molecules diffuse from higher to
lower concentration through a biological membrane. In facilitated diffusion a specific transport makes
the membrane permeable to a particular solute.
