After considering what has happened in the ice cream market, do you think that similar events could happen in the markets of other product categories?
What will be an ideal response?
If time allows, instructors may probe students with this question, in order to make them think if what has happened in ice cream might also happen in other (food or non-food) product categories.
Many product categories do have a premium segment, for instance, wristwatches and automobiles. How do they operate? Do they also have a different “system of strategic activities” which is difficult to imitate by “regular quality” products of the same categories?
Can students (and instructors) identify some product categories which do not seem to have a “super premium” segment?
