Describe how environment, socioeconomic status, and gender influence IQ.

What will be an ideal response?

The answers should recognize that intelligence has some heredity components but that it is heavily shaped by environment (particularly home environments prior to school entry), that high SES often corresponds to higher IQ, that racial differences are consistently seen in IQ scores, and that there are minimal gender differences aside from some spatial skills differences, but that all of these issues must be interpreted with caution because of stereotype threat as well as self-fulfilling prophecies.
