Define and describe apraxia of speech
What will be an ideal response?
Apraxia of speech is a speech programming problem often associated with brain damage to the frontal lobe. Adults with strokes or brain damage may exhibit this problem. As word length increases, more errors occur because of the difficulty programming the speech production. Childhood apraxia of speech is a similar condition to adult apraxia, but there is no evidence of neurological damage. They will exhibit unintelligible speech, increased number of sound errors as word length increases, difficulties sequencing sounds in syllables and words, and have inconsistent speech sound errors. Progression in therapy is very slow for these children.
