What is parole? How do probation and parole differ? How are they alike?

What will be an ideal response?

• Parole is the supervised and conditional early release of a convicted offender from prison. It is a corrections strategy whose primary purpose is to return offenders gradually to productive lives. Parole differs from probation in that parolees, unlike probationers, have been incarcerated. Parole supports the concept of indeterminate sentencing, which allows a prisoner to earn early release through good behavior and self-improvement.
