What is the difference between a patent attorney and a patent agent?

Patent attorneys are attorneys who can represent clients before the USPTO and in court and can give legal advices. Patent agents are not attorneys. They can prosecute patent applications at the USPTO but cannot give legal advice or represent clients in court. Both have passed the "patent bar" and have expertise in patents.
