The court administrator can either be a state employee or a local court administrator. The state employee helps develop and implement policies and services for the judicial branch and conducts research to determine whether judicial needs are identified. The local administrator manages daily operations of the court. Court security consists of the marshal or bailiff, who is responsible for courtroom security. The legal staff includes legal counsel and law clerks. Judicial support staff can include executive assistants, administrative assistants, and secretaries. The court reporter records judicial proceedings. The jury staff maintains and reviews lists of prospective jurors and meets with them to explain the process, explain where to go, and dismiss them from service. Court staff is important because it means judges do not wield their power in isolation. They are assisted by a group of people who ensure the system runs accurately and smoothly, which makes judges more collaborative and ensures they are fulfilling their duties correctly.
