The ionic bonds within cesium chloride, CsCl, are much weaker than the ionic bonds within sodium chloride, NaCl. Use what you know about the periodic table to explain why this is so
What will be an ideal response?
From the periodic table we find that the cesium ion is larger than the sodium ion. The distance between the cesium ion and the chloride ion in cesium chloride is greater than the distance between the sodium ion and the chloride ion in sodium chloride. Since electric attractions diminish over distance the cesium chloride ionic bond is weaker.
