A high?speed USB 2.0 port uses 30% of the available bandwidth. The bus is used to read a flash card with 700 images, each of 25 MB. If the card is not the limiting factor, how long does it take to read the data?
What will be an ideal response?
The maximum data rate of USB 2.0 is 480 Mb/s. Thirty per cent of that bandwidth is 144 Mb/s. If there are 700 images and each is 25 MB, the total data is 700 × 25 MB or 700 × 25 × 8 Mb (140,000 Mbits). The time taken to transmit this is 140,000/144 = 972 s or 16.2 minutes. Note that USB never achieves the maximum theoretical bit rate so the actual time will be longer. It has been reported that the maximum practical bit rate of USB 2.0 is about half the theoretical value.

1. Counter-controlled repetition requires only a control variable, an initial value for the control variable and an increment or decrement. 2. Counting loops should be controlled with whatever data type most closely reflects the operations taking place, whether that is an Integer, Single or Double. 3. A control variable that is declared in a For…Next statement header may not be used outside of the body of the For…Next statement. 4. The control variable of the For…Next statement must have its type declared before or at the beginning of the loop. 5. The Visual Basic operator ^ can be used for exponentiation.
