What will be an ideal response?
Some limitations of reality/choice therapy are that it overemphasizes the importance of observable client behavior while ignoring the unconscious, the importance of a client’s past, the influence of traumatic life experiences, and the examination of client’s dreams. Therapists also point out that Glasser’s failure to deal with issues of transference is an additional weakness of his therapeutic approach. Another limitation is the belief that people choose mental illness rather than acknowledging the recent developments regarding mental illness, genetics, and brain development. A third potential weakness of reality/choice theory deals with the absolute power and influence of the therapist.
