What is stereotype threat? Explain how it can affect people’s choices and options in life. Give at least one example.

What will be an ideal response?

Stereotype threat is the stress people feel when they know another person views
people from their group (sex, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation) negatively. It can limit
people’s options in many ways, such as when a Black man refuses to go to college
because of a perception that people of his race are not capable of academic
achievement. Or a gay man may not try out for a professional football team because he
fears the judgments of other players and so does not live up to his potential in the sport
(many other examples possible).
