Describe the theory of plate tectonics
What will be an ideal response?
The theory of plate tectonics states that the lithosphere is broken up into about eight large and several smaller rigid moving plates that move in response to convection cycles within the planet's interior. Two types of boundaries between these plates are divergent and convergent plate boundaries. These boundaries are the sites where crust is formed (by seafloor spreading) and destroyed (at subduction zones). At transform boundaries, plates slide past each other horizontally.
