How can you tell if the winds entering a cyclone will be fast or slow on a particular day?

The velocity of awind depends on the intensity of the pressuregradient that produces the wind. A pressure gradient is the rate ofchange in atmospheric pressure between twopoints, typically indicated on a weather mapby the spacing of isobars. When the pressuregradient is steep, with a large pressure changeover a short distance, winds will be fast and strong.
