It provides progressively stronger sanctions against an employee who continues to behave in an unacceptable manner in the organization, based on rules or policies. The sequence of progressive discipline is as follows: (1) informal talk, (2) oral warning, (3) written warning, (4) suspension, (5) in some cases, demotion or transfer, and (6) dismissal.
