Describe the concept of compassion fatigue in social workers

What will be an ideal response?

This term compassion fatigue refers to the accumulated stress social workers may feel in caring for terminally ill patients and families. It is the emotional depletion that results from the imbalance between self-care and care for others. This can result in becoming unwilling to discuss important issues about pain and suffering or death with patients and families. Self-care and supervision can mitigate the potential of compassion fatigue.
