Describe three network security devices used in the corporate network
What will be an ideal response?
Three common network security devices used in the corporate network are the firewall, IDS, and IPS. The firewall is software or a piece of hardware that protects one or more networks from outside attacks. Firewalls operate on a concept of permit or deny. A network or network security administrator programs the firewall with rules for what to allow into the corporate network. An intrusion detection system (IDS) is hardware or software used to monitor network traffic for malicious content or violations of security policies. An intrusion prevention system (IPS) is similar to an IDS in that it can do those functions, but an IPS can take action based on the security issue. Actions can include an alarm, a message, a logged event, reset connections, block traffic, disable ports, or disallow traffic.
