1 . The expectations and intentions concerning career and family may be disappointing. Support from a spouse can be diminished by pressures of dealing with family roles as well as work roles.
2 . There can be a constant role conflict in that the unexpected can happen and restrict one's focus on desirable goals.
3 . The question of who is to assume the greatest responsibility for child care can cause conflicts between spouses that is continuous. Both spouses can experience resentfulness.
4 . Rather than support for each other, there can be competition between husband and wife that is usually focused on who has the most significant job and/or career.
5 . In sum, relationship issues across a spectrum of concerns can lead to severe marital problems.
