A built-up roof (BUR) consists of multiple plies where a ply is defined as one felt field mopped with asphalt. The thickness of one BUR ply is approximately 30 mil. A modified bitumen roof (MBR), on the other hand, consists of modified bitumen sheets. What is the composition of a modified bitumen sheet and its typical thickness?

What will be an ideal response?

A modified bitumen sheet consists of two (fiberglass and polyester) mats adhered together with modified asphalt and this assembly, coated with modified asphalt on both faces. It is 100 mil to 200 mil thick, i.e., thickness of one modified bitumen sheet is equal to that of three to seven BUR plies.
